So much snow ….

Parking for the Night at lake Millstatt

After skiing in Obertauern, we had made it into Carinthia to Millstatt, where we found a parking directly at the lake which was sufficiently cleared of snow. In the morning the sun came out and we went for a walk along the lake.

Not far lies the town of Spittal an der Drau, where everybody was still fighting with mountains of snow. Luckily we managed to find a parking and could take a stroll into town. As it was still Corona lockdown nothing was open, but we explored the centre and bought coffee and sweets at a bakery to take away.

From Spittal we drove further south to the Italian border, where we wanted to go skiing the next day. The forests were covered thick with snow but the roads were perfectly cleared.

We reached the Nassfeld, a well known skiing area, and parked next to the lift in Tröpolach for the night. Our dinner tonight was a special treat: apple & rice casserole, a sweet dish which consists mainly of rice cooked in milk and grated apples. We enjoyed some sweet wine with it, which was left from New Year’s eve.

The next morning we bought the tickets at the vending machine and jumped onto the lift, which took us up into the skiing resort. There were so few people, that even on such a beautiful day, we didn’t have to stand in line anywhere. The pistes were perfect and it was a joy to go skiing under these conditions.

What a great day of skiing we had at the Nassfeld! We are now slowly on the way to Graz, but will stop at the Wörthersee, a big lake in Carinthia. More on our next post.
