Exploring Warmia

We were now in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship or province where we want to do some hiking. Here some impressions of our first tours.

From Pieniezno (Mehlsack) we went on a hike along the valley of the Waltz (Walsch). We had found a beautiful private camping at this village and could start from there in the morning coming past the church and then following a river into a natural reserve.

Further east we came past a town with a well preserved castle of the Teutonic Order called Lidzbark Warmiński. Our Rother hiking guide provided us with a little tour through town and into the woods next to the castle.
The huge castle is nowadays a museum and a luxurious hotel with restaurants.
Further south we passed Dobre Miasto which has an impressive church. But we were heading to a tiny village called Swobodna which lies at the lake Limajno. We could park directly behind the beach which had everything you can want on a lake: nice lawn with some shade, sandy beach, playground for the kids, boats to rent, life guard for the swimming area for kids and beginners and that on a lake which was unspoilt and completely natural beside of this little beach. We were hooked.
We spent the night here and went for a hike the next morning around the lake which took us 2 hours. Afterwards we enjoyed this nice summer day with swimming and sunbathing. A glorious day!

We had started on the other side of the lake
Our perfect beach even had a food truck which sold among many others a typical Polish fast food: Zapiekanki. Thats a baguette with mushrooms and tomato sauce covered with cheese. We tried one after our swim.
