Ekeunos-Rise Up Trusanne School

We were invited to a missionary station, which includes a school for disabled children, something which is very rare in Uganda. We learned, that mentally disabled children are normally hidden away at home because the family is ashamed of them. Truus from the Netherlands founded this school in 2017, when she realised, how many children in need live in this area. The school relies on donations, as the parents are not able to pay any fees. Which makes the long-term funding the biggest problem this little school has to face.

We were welcomed by the students and their teachers with a song, which they performed with enthusiasm. They proudly showed us their school class and the dormitory, where the children stay during the week.

The ball we had brought them was immediately put to good use. Besides of basic mathematics, reading and writing, they learn social behaviour and skills like cooking and crafts, which helps them to better integrate in their family.

We were impressed by this little school, which gives so much love to these children. For them, the school is like haven, to be in such a lovely place, with friends and people who really care about them.

Through the HAM radio community, Eddy started a donation campaign to support this school. If you want to donate a little bit yourself, you can use this link:
