Tétouan

We are in Morocco!
At Algeciras, we had bought the tickets for the ferry, filled up our gas bottle, and did some panic buying of Spanish ham and cheese, just in case. The ferry ride was uncomplicated and only the police control in Morocco took a while. There was a young man in front of us, having drugs, found by the police dogs, which kept the whole station busy for a while.

Before we reached our first town, Tétouan, we stayed at an empty parking at the sea and did a hike at Cabo Negro, from where we had great views of Ceuta and even Gibraltar. The next day, we spent exploring the Medina (old town) of Tétouan, which was fascinating with all the shops and bustle in little alleys, where it is easy to get lost.

We had taken a Taxi from the Gare routière to the Centre Ville and were dropped in the Nouvelle Ville, which was built during Spanish occupation between 1913 and 1956.

We soon reached the entrance to the Medina and the Mellah, the Jewish quarter, which we explored first.

Outside the city wall, we came through the large cemetery, before we took another gate to immerse again in the bustle of the Medina. After wandering through numerous small alleys, with all kinds of activities, we finally made it back to our car.

We continued along the Mediterranean coast to Oued Laou, where we spent a peaceful night at the beach again. Tomorrow we want to drive into the Rif mountains – more next!
