Some relaxing days @ Xàbia

Coming to Xàbia (or Jávea) felt like coming home for us. We lived here for 8 years with our son and have very good memories of this town. For us, it is the most beautiful spot at the Costa Blanca. The Montgó – a fascinating mountain, with caves inhabited already 30.000 years ago, shelters the town to the North. Xàbia can be divided into 3 parts: the old town, the harbour and the Arenal beach, from where the summer houses spread up to the lighthouse of the Cabo de la Nau, 120 metres above the sea.

In the old town, you find many beautiful buildings, where the Tosca-stone from the coast was used. Along the coastline you easily can spot where it was cut.

Every Thursday a market is held at the Plaza de la Constitutión. From fruits and vegetables to olives, cheese and churros, but also clothes, shoes and much more is sold here. This market still serves for the locals to buy everything they need.

The coast from the Cabo de San Antonio in the North to the Cabo de la Nau in the South is of tosca limestone with a lovely sand beach in between called “Arenal” which means sandpit in Spanish.

The coastline has many caves and beaches to explore. Some are only accessible from the sea, others can be reached by car, often with a little walk included.

In the end we spent 3 weeks in Jávea, meeting friends, revisiting many of the restaurants we like and getting a couple of things organised. The Camping Javea was a great place to stay, in the middle of orange groves and in walking distance to the old town and the harbour.

But now we want to explore more of Spain and are on the way to the famous wind mills of Don Quixote. More on our next post!
