We left Huesca in the afternoon to explore the impressive castle we had seen from the highway: Castillo Montearagón. It was closed, but the light was perfect and after walking around it, we spent the night not far from the castle, with great views of the sunset and the lights of Huesca.
The next day, we drove north of Huesca to Arguis, from where we took the small road east, leading through the Sierra de Guara. We came past little villages, along rivers and over hills.
Lúsera, a little village in the valley, was on our way. It might have been already abandoned, but found some inhabitants again. It was great to see, that this lovely village is getting restored.
Finally, we crossed the mountains into the next valley and came past a sign pointing to a Dolmen. It was in good condition and at a great place with views in all directions. We used this spot for our lunch and a break in the sun.
North of the Sierra, we reached the Rio Guarga, which we followed to the east. We took a turn-off onto a gravel road leading to Torruellola and other abandoned villages. During the dry summer month, this track might have been easier. We had a lot of water and mud, which made this route more interesting.
This was the worst section we had that day. Somebody had already tried to improve the grip with some twigs, not sure if they really helped. There were deep holes under the mud, which you didn’t see, but had to get through with a bit of speed to not get stuck.
We made it up to the ruins of Pardina de Albás, where we stopped for the night.
Tomorrow we will have to make our way back down the hill, through that deep mud again and up on the other side of the valley. The description from Pistenkuh promises a difficult track, which should be worse under wet conditions.
