After we had crossed the Alps, we came past lake Como, where we stopped for a lunch break and went to a monastery called Abbazia di Piona, but it was already closed.
We made our way past Milano and stopped at Vercelli for the night. We walked into town and admired the Piazza Cavour by night, before we had dinner at an excellent restaurant called Ristorantino del Cin Cin. The chef recommended a traditional dish called Panissa vercellese, a rice dish, as we were in the rice growing area of Italy.
The next morning we drove through the rice fields which were in the process of getting harvested. Beside of different kind of herons, like Grey Heron and White Egrets, we also spotted flocks of African sacred ibises, which we know so well from Africa. We found out, that there is an introduced population in Europe, very fascinating.
We reached the hilly part of Piemonte and the wine area, where we went for a hike and spent the night at Monforte d’Alba. The next day, we had a reservation at a restaurant in Novello called Langotto, where we enjoyed a tasting menu accompanied by different wine from the region and even some white truffle.
Next we want to cross the Alps again, but which pass is open?
