Liechtenstein

Between Austria and Switzerland lies the microstate of the Principality of Liechtenstein. We decided to pay it a short visit and stopped at Vaduz, the capital.

Liechtenstein has a democratic monarchy, headed by the prince of Liechtenstein of the House of Liechtenstein, currently Prince Alois. It is Europe’s fourth-smallest country after Vatican City, Monaco and San Marino.

River Rhine – the border between Liechtenstein and Switzerland

Vaduz lies at the river Rhine, which flows from the mountains into the Bodensee, before it continues through Germany and the Netherlands to the North Sea.

This old wooden Rhine bridge connects the Liechtenstein capital of Vaduz with the Swiss municipality of Sevelen. The bridge is 135 metres long and is the last remaining wooden bridge that crosses the Alpine Rhine.

We are now heading into Switzerland for a short visit.
