Into the Atlas mountains

We left Goulmima, to drive into the Atlas mountains. The locals had warned us, that rain was predicted for the end of the week. By then, we shouldn’t be driving on difficult roads any more. Two days to go, so we were good.

Our route took us north to Amellagou and then west through a narrow valley to Amougueur and Assoul, until we finally reached the RN12, a good road coming up from the Thodra gorge.

Many river crossings
And another river crossing
Soil is beeing trasported by mules
Alfalfa was drying in front of many houses
With the first snow, the road will be closed

We drove higher and higher into the mountains, until we reached a pass 2,645 metres above sea level. Not long after, we finally stopped for the night. It was very windy and cold. The wind was rattling at our windows all night long, but inside it was comfortable and warm.

Tomorrow we want to drive even higher up, before we will descend into a famous valley – more soon!

Birders note: we spotted Alpine Coughs in the mountains.
