Back to Huelva

After crossing the border from Portugal to Spain, we visited a ham radio enthusiast in Ayamonte, who had contacted us. After a lovely afternoon, we left to Huelva, where we found a spot for the night at the Rio Tinto.

On the way to Algeciras, where we will take a ferry to Morocco, we visited first Niebla, which has a still intact city wall surrounding the town, including a castle and a lovely church, which was once a mosque.

We decided to pay a visit to the famous El Rocio, famous for the Romería de El Rocío, an annual pilgrimage to the Hermitage of the Virgin Mary, which attracts nearly a million people each year. The village has few paved roads, and we could observe locals riding horses over the sandy roads.

The weather had turned to gray, and soon it started to rain. We spent the night south of Sevilla and continued to Algeciras the next day. We got our tickets from Carlos (36.179515, -5.441363) and did some last shopping, before we took the ferry the following day. More from Morocco next!
