Fado & historic cars

Back in Lisbon, we visited a classic cars exhibition, took the cable car along the Tejo river and attended a Fado show at a well-known restaurant.

Great view from the cable car

On a poster in Lisbon, we saw that there was a classic car exhibition just this weekend. So we took the metro to get to the modern exhibition area a little bit at the outskirts of Lisbon. There were a lot of different cars on display, some for purchase some just presented by their proud owners. Edi was in his element!

On the way to the Fado Restaurant
Hard to find, expensive, but well recommended

We had managed to book a table at Restaurante Senhor Vinho, which is known as one of the best Fado restaurants in Lisbon. After dressing up for the event, we took again the ferry over the river, hopped on a bus and then walked up the hill until we found the restaurant. The food was excellent, we had rice with fish for two which was really delicious.

Expecting a nice evening

When two men, one with the typical Portuguese 12 string guitar and one with a normal guitar took their places, the light was dimmed and the service stopped. Then the singer appeared and they performed maybe 5 songs before they disappeared again. The lights went on and the service continued. This happened a couple of times with the same musicians but different singers. I wasn’t sure I would like Fado music as I expected it to be very sad, but I was wrong and I found the music very good especially with the expressive performance of the singers.

Late at night, we walked through the cobbled streets down to the river, took a tram and finally the ferry again until we reached our Cochecito in the wee hours. What a great evening!
