El Golfo

After our hike in the mist, just driving down a little had brought us to an entirely different weather with sun and nice temperatures. Our first stop was at the La Peña lookout, designed by César Manrique Cabrera, a Spanish artist, sculptor, and nature activist from Lanzarote, who built many outstanding buildings on the Canary Islands. We especially liked the La Peña lookout, which was perfectly integrated into the landscape.

Las Puntas – our next destination

There is an excellent restaurant at La Peña, which has the best views on the island. We had lunch there, and enjoyed it very much.

The road led us down the mountains and through a tunnel, that we easily reached the coast of El Golfo. We stopped at Las Puntas and started to explore the coastal path from there. The waves were very high, the rock pools all closed, but to watch the huge waves crash against the coast was very impressive.

Tomorrow we want to visit an old village and the lizards of El Hierro – more soon!
