Leaving the coast, we headed along the fjords to Åndalsnes, from where we wanted to tackle the most famous road of Norway, the Trollstigen (Troll’s Ladder in English).
There are 11 hairpin bends leading up at the end of the valley, with the 240 metres high Stigfossen waterfall gushing down the rocks.
The Trollstigen reminded us very much of the Transfăgărășan Road in Romania, which we drove in 2019 – check out our post from this trip!
But after the Trollstigen, the amazing route was not over. Up here at about 850 metres the first snow of this winter had stayed, and we drove through a beautiful winter landscape.
We were very happy that we could drive this road with nearly no other cars at all and good weather. The winter landscape made the mountains even more beautiful. For sure a road worth driving. In front of us was now the famous Geiranger Fjord, which also has an impressive road leading down to the sea. More on our next post!
