Castillo Marcuello

North from Huesca, from the Loarre Castle, which we had visited before, we started a gravel route, taking us to the remains of Castillo Marcuello, a vulture colony and over an interesting track down the mountains to La Pena in the next valley.

From the medieval castle, only one wall stands like a finger into the sky. The church in front was closed and an Eremita from the 12th century are the only remains, but the view was great and the weather perfect.

Next we came to the “Mirador de los Buitres”, from where we could watch the Griffon vultures circle, which have their nests in the cliffs next to that view point. In front of us were the “Malos de Riglos”, a special rock formation, where we had hiked a couple of years ago.

We were driving down the mountain on an interesting route, just that it was mostly in the shade. It was not too difficult, but some water and mud and many rocky sections had to be navigated with care. The gravel route ended in La Pena, but before we had some bridges to cross, to get through a narrow gorge.

We went back to Huesca that day, as we had received an online order. Things we didn’t find in the shops, arrived here in no time thanks to Amazon.

We also went to explore the town, but will do another tour to the mountains next.
