When we finally left the region of Óbidos, we stopped just a little further south at the Buddha Eden Garden. This park with 35 ha was created as a reaction to the destruction of the Buddhas of Banyan, an act of cultural barbarity, erasing masterpieces of late-period Gandhara art.

Beside of the lovely Buddha Garden, there are also areas with African and modern art. The African Sculpture Garden is dedicated to the Shona people of Zimbabwe, who have been hand-sculpting stone into works of art for nearly a thousand years.

Impressive were also the herds of African animals in life-size, like buffalos, hippos, wildebeest and elephants.

It was a fascinating to walk through this huge park, a place to relax and enjoy.
We continued our way south, stopping at Mafra to pick up a parcel from Amazon. The palace of Mafra was under renovation and rapped in plastic, so we continued to the coast, where we stopped at Magoito Beach for the night.

We are already near Sintra now, where we want to visit a palace. More next!
