We had spent the night and half a rainy day in Graus, where we could park next to the river and walk into town. In the afternoon the sun was shining again, and we decided to drive another gravel track to an abandoned village and further over the mountains.
Once a prosperous town, but without electricity and road access, doomed to be slowly abandoned. The last couple left Castarlenas in 1970, when they couldn’t support themselves any more. The big houses and impressive church still tell the tale of better times.
From Castarlenas we continued along the mountain ridge and got spectacular views, before we made our way slowly down again.
We will now leave the area of Graus and will continue to Huesca, hopefully finding more amazing off-road tracks there.
